Making Southern Maryland beautiful, one stretch of road at a time
| Published on 6/3/2015
On Saturday, May 31st, 20 Omega men from the Tau Lambda Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi
Fraternity, Inc, gathered for the 10th year in a row to support the Charles County Adopt-a-Road program.
Charles County encourages residents/businesses to help combat the ever–increasing problem of
littering by “adopting” a County road. Volunteers receive sign recognition in exchange for cleaning their
road three (3) times in a calendar year.
The Adopt-A-Road Program, helps to keep Charles County cleaner and healthier, saves taxpayer dollars,
promotes local community involvement, promotes civic responsibility and pride, Provides recognition
for individuals, organizations, and companies.
TLL’s participation in this program helps reduce trash and litter along County roads and maintain a clean
and attractive environment. During this outing, five large garbage bags were collected by the side of the
1.5 mile stretch of road along Smallwood Drive.
Community members and grade school students are invited to participate (often to acquire mandated
volunteer hours) and also fellowship with members of TLL and the community. As a part of the
program, we maintain our area three times a year. Our location begins at the intersection of Smallwood
Drive and Middletown Road.
