TLL Santas deliver Christmas a bit early
| Published on 5/5/2015
On April 25, 31 brothers of Tau Lambda Lambda chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the
Christmas in April Charles County program, along with the ladies of Zeta Phi Beta and Bay-
CSS, showed up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to work on three separate homes in Waldorf, Md.
A break from the norm as one home is usually the focal point of home-improvement efforts.
The work at the various residences for the day included landscaping, carpentry, and painting.
This year marks the eighth year that the chapter participated in the program to serve Charles
County.
Held on the last Saturday in April annually, the Charles County Christmas in April program
started in 1990 so that, in partnership with the community, volunteers are able to help rehabilitate
the houses of low-income homeowners, elderly and disabled, so that they may continue to live in
warmth, safety and independence.
Bay Community Support Services, Inc. (Bay-CSS) has been providing services to people with
disabilities in Southern and Central Maryland since 1989. Their services promote the ability of
people with varying abilities, ages and life situations to live and work successfully in their
communities.
When speaking about Christmas in April, Tony Hill, the chapter's social action committee
chairman, said, “as a police officer, I give back to the community every day, but this event
allows me to give back collectively with my fraternity brothers”.
TLL chapter serves Calvert, Charles and St. Mary's counties through various programs that uplift
the community.
One home-owner, Mashawn Smith, stated that she was “super excited and very appreciative of
the work that’s being done and the services that are being provided”.
