TLL Awards Students for Academic Achievements

The Tau Lambda Lambda Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.,  in partnership with the 

John Lancaster & W. Cecil Short (JL&WCS) Charity Foundation, Inc., held its an 

annual scholarship awards program for students in Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s 

counties. Since 2008, we have awarded over $60,000 in scholarships and grants to deserving 

students in pursuit of higher education.


In 2015, our organization awarded 12 students from Southern Maryland were selected to receive 

a $1,000 scholarship.  The Calvert county awardees were Jia Horsey, Ryan Adams, Dante Hall 

and Robert Oertly from Northern HS, Patuxent and Huntingtown HS respectively.  The Charles 

county award winners were Ryan Burton, Paul Bouatene, Tyrone Shaw, Jr and Herbert 

Wakefield, IV from La Plata HS, Henry Lackey HS, Northern Point HS and Westlake HS, 

respectively.  The St. Mary’s county winners were Bokeum Apesemaka-Vital, Christopher 

Blanks, Austin Raines and Wesley Williams from St Mary’s Rykien HS, Great Mills HS and 

Chopticon HS, respectively.


In September, we will be releasing information on our annual essay contest which will allow 

students to win prizes and get the essay published on our website. The winner of this contest will 

have the opportunity to compete at our region and national level potentially earning additional 

money for higher education.
